You might have the coolest website on planet Earth.
It might be Flash enabled and have the best graphics. You may have spent thousands of dollars on a copywriter to get the best converting headlines and text ever–maybe it has a 97% conversion rate! You’ve got the perfect product to sell. It has a 200% markup. Maybe your website won design awards…
But you have one problem.
1) There is no traffic coming to it.
It’s like a billboard in the middle of the Sahara Desert.
You might have spent a fortune on it, but if there are no people to see it, the advertising is going to be ineffective and you won’t generate any revenue.
There are basically two ways to get traffic to your site:
1. Free traffic
2. Paid traffic
And under these two main headings there are infinite ways to attain that traffic.
Here are a couple of things to consider:
- Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. You don’t put all of your 401k investments on a single company, do you? That would be like going to Vegas and putting all of your retirement funds on one number on the roulette wheel! No, you diversify so if one company goes bankrupt or loses money, your investments will not be wiped out. The same strategy should apply to your traffic generating strategies. Diversify! Use several different methods that work well for you and focus on them. Maybe on different days you focus on different strategies.
- Don’t quit on a strategy because it didn’t produce revenue for you in 12 minutes. Building an audience takes time and patience. You have to give your various streams some time to work. You can’t give up when you don’t see immediate results.
- Review your options, pick 5 different strategies that interest you and focus on them passionately for 3 months. Then, in 3 months evaluate what is working for you. Of course, in order to be able to do this you must be able to track your results. So, be sure to develop a system to keep track of your results!
While the concepts may be simple to understand, it takes discipline, a bit of technical savvy, and creativity to build an effective sales funnel.
Just about anyone can set up a beautiful website in under an hour. Getting a commerce enabled website up is not a big deal today.
What is a big deal is getting a massive amount of traffic to your site to build your brand and enable you to make a living online if that is your goal.
You can literally spend thousands of dollars buying courses teaching you how to drive traffic to your lonely website.
